About the role:

As the Senior Sub-Editor for TSL Media Group, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining the quality and consistency of content across our titles, namely The Smart Local, along with our sister publications Uchify, Zula and Eatbook. 


This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about both editing and writing, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to excellence.


What you will do:

Campaign Management

    • Liaise with the project management team and clients to produce advertorials across TSL Media Group's titles, including TheSmartLocal.
    • Manage and coordinate campaigns effectively across all titles.


    Editorial Processes & Quality

    • Serve as the second-in-command (2IC) to the Editor, providing support in overseeing the editorial process.
    • Provide feedback and suggestions to enhance content quality.
    • Assist in managing editorial workflows to ensure all deadlines are met and content quality and accuracy is upheld.
    • Sub-edit articles across TSL Media Group, offering constructive feedback and ensuring consistency in tone, style, and adherence to editorial standards.


    Team Management & Training

    • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior editors and writers.
    • Work closely with junior editors and writers to refine content and improve overall quality.
    • Delegate work to junior writers and ensure their submitted work meets the expected standard.
    • Oversee the content produced by interns, ensuring it is mistake-free and aligns with the brand's standards.
    • Conduct training sessions to improve the skills of the editorial team.


    Writing

    • Actively pitch ideas and produce articles to contribute to the editorial team’s monthly targets.
    • Write articles, features, and other content that align with TSL Media Group’s goals and audience.
    • Edit content for various platforms, maintaining high standards in all written material.
    • Proofread articles, reports, and other content for grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style consistency.

The successful candidate should have:

  • At least 4 years of experience of writing and 2 years of sub-editing.
  • At least 1 year of experience in managing a team of writers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field.
  • Experience in a fast-paced publishing or media environment is highly desirable.
  • Strong command of the English language.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Being meticulous and versatile.
  • Highly organized and ability to multitask.
  • Knowledge in SEO is a bonus.
